Blog Changes Coming

It was brought to my attention that I have been misleading readers of my blog. I will be making some changes to my blog header in the near future so as not to be misleading any longer. The cabin I used for my header photo is not my home. The cabin I came across on a drive and call it my dream home. I do not go by my given name. I go by Lara as my friends call me. I do not refer to my children by their given names but their nick names. I assure you that my posts I have shared are not fiction. I apologize for not making it more clear to you all. Blessings Til Next Time! Lara

  1. Lara, Changes are not necessary. For security reasons many of us with blogs do use genuine pictures of our homes and the environs interspersed with pictures we like from friends or from the internet which explain our points. We are not advertising or selling anything. We are providing our perspectives, and we are not getting paid. In this day and age, it doesn't make sense to provide too much information. Last week my husband gave me a hard time for including farm building pictures he said could be identified through Google Earth. Enjoy your blog, and include or disallow anything you wish. Your blog, like your own grief journey, is your own. People shouldn't tell you how to run either of them. If they do, they need to start their own blog.

  2. I remember when you first posted the cabin photo, you said you hoped to have one like that at some point. I would only change what you feel you want to. It is your blog after all. hugs!

    1. One day I had hoped to have one like it but now I can not see myself ever leaving behind the home my son grew up in and all the memories held within the walls. Thank you.

  3. I think it's totally up to you, to use either real names, or nicknames, as you choose! I know of others who do this as well! Feel free to do as you please...it's your blog! :)

  5. Lara - In this day and age, I don't blame you for wanting to keep your family names private. I do not think that it is misleading at all. As far as the cabin...there are many people who use different pictures/graphics in their header that are not their property. I see no harm in this, but understand if you want to change. Don't change too much and please, don't let people bother you too much - you've been through enough.

  6. Not sure who the poop head is but I guess they need to scratch their butt's and get glad (that's what my Dad always said! lol) Reading your blog I have always known which you made clear from the start that it was not your cabin but a dream home type cabin. Who gives a hoot, do what you want and tell them to kiss off! LOVE YOU!

  7. Your blog is beautiful as is. As another person commented, it doesn't matter if the picture in your header is of your home or not. Many people use other photos in their headers.
    Hugs to you!

  8. Oh boy. You told us all from the beginning about that log cabin. I think you can block trouble makers from reading or seeing your blog, but I guess they can always come at you using a false alias. Then they would be hypocrites wouldn't they.
    Blessings,
    Carol

  9. Just let the haters hate because you'll never change them. I've known from the start the log cabin was your dream home ( it's also a dream of mine) but what does it even matter. What you write is from your heart and we all feel and know that. Don't change who you are or what you write because some people don't "get it" because we all support and care about you just as you are!

  10. Lara,
I have gotten to know you so well and when you emailed me I really have gotten to know you.
You are the sweetest lady and loving and also in a lot of pain. I am praying for you everyday
I will not comment on here I will email you later and even my husband will listen when I read your blog to him and the email you sent. It touched both our hearts and we both feel your pain. We both pray for you and your family.
It is SNOWING lady right now in the country small town we live in.... they haven't even plowed our street yet but they will get to it.
Our youngest son is a Senior and he has no school today!
For the beautiful picture of YOUR dream home is just BREATH TAKING! You shouldn't change it and nick names for your family is NO ONE'S business. It is a sick world out there. My husband tells me all the time. Ken my hubby doesn't want me to even post there pictures in blog posts anymore and at my age of almost 45 in April I should know better but you think because you are a good person everyone is.
Girl the last time I checked it is still a free country!!!! You do what you want.
I am behind you and love you and the knuckle head that made any comment needs to get a LIFE!!!!!!Us blogging friends are prayer warriors and we stick together and have each other's back and girl I have yours!

  11. I do not use my real name, have photos of my house and say where it is located and I try not to use family members names, either. I am having second thoughts on posting pictures of my small grandchildren. First of all, security is a big concern. Secondly, it is no one's business. Third, a lot of us use blogging as a way to escape a little bit of reality. Trust me, even if I post a table setting - the rest of my house is piled high with the junk I scrapped off the table to take the photo. I don't know who called you out, but they are just being jealous or bitter. No need to listen to them! I support making changes you want to make in your blog, but don't do it because someone else thinks you need to!!! We are all allowed to revise and update our dreams. If your dream house has changed, that is one thing, but don't make any changes because someone else thinks you need to!

  12. Thank you. I to have moved piles of mail magazines coats on chairs shoes on the floor to get a better picture. Our home is lived in as it should be.

  13. I think most of us that follow remember you talking about the cabin. You are wise to not use real names and locations. I myself don't use the full names of family for safety reasons. You should do as you please and not worry about other people.

  14. Hello Lara....I don't feel you were misleading us at all. In my opinion, bloggers can put whatever they want in their headers.

I'm careful about not listing names of family members. This is for security purposes but also because my family doesn't want to be identified online and I respect that.

Like you, I absolutely love my blog and find great joy in posting snippits and tidbits of my life.

I love the cabin in the header and saw a house almost identical to it in a teeny tiny town in Massachusetts. I imagine there are hundreds like it.

I'd say, KEEP IT. And the person who called your attention to it can go visit other blogs if they want. Tell thank "adios." Susan

  15. Oh my goodness. I totally agree with you about security and real names and such. Notice on my blogs I do not tell my last name or the last names of my family members, or the actual towns that we live in. I never post photos that could identify exactly where we live. I will blur-out the street name and house number or other identifying things such as names on t-shirts. Some people call me "Hannah" because that was the name I had chosen for my blog back when I had a web store named Homespun Hannah's. (I named the blog to match the web store only because I thought Hannah sounds more prim than my real first name). Lying? Doesn't seem like it to me. I also sign all of my blog posts with my real first name, which is Danice. I also don't even post photos of other people without their permission. In today's world, to do so is smart.

You don't have to change your blog header. The old Singer in my header is not my machine, but so what? If you want to use a pseudonym many people do that. It is totally legal and acceptable. 'Sounds like the person who complained is just being contrary. You have not "lied" or "mislead" anyone, in my opinion. Other folks who have commented on this post seem to agree that you have not.

Cheer up and continue on with your great blog. I so enjoy reading your posts :)

  17. Hi Lara,
I too remember when you posted abotu that Cabin. I have always known it wasn't yours. And who's business is it what you use as your header or what you call your kids. If someeone told you they fel tyou were being misleading then they are not a TRUE follower of yours and can butt out. :) That is what I think. Keep your blog just as it is. I love that cabin pic and I love seeing it up there. Happy Spring!

  20. Oh Lara, you have had enough pain w/o listening to the drivel. If you want to use this as your header, use it. I love it! As for nick names, do what you are comfortable with it. I do give my names, where I really live.etc. So many people read my blog that know me, I just was okay with this. Do what makes you happy. BTW this cabin could be my dream one too. Be yourself and let those who don't like what you do go somewhere else. My philosophy is only have things around you that you love, and that includes people!!! My goodness blogland loves your blog.

  21. Lara, there are critics everywhere. I have also known that the cabin on the photo had been your dream home. If you want to change, do it because it feels right, but the critic who wants to dictate your writing should go somewhere else because their input is probably not critical to YOUR blog. As for names, etc., we don't use last names and such, but we are real people. The fact is, we're all exposed to electronic crude. Be yourself and never apologize and never change to please someone who really shouldn't count.

Keep blogging and don't listen to the naysayers.

    Lana

  22. Lara, I distinctly remember you saying the cabin was NOT your home, but a cabin you dreamed of as your perfect place. This is YOUR blog...it does not belong to the snarky person who apparently complained to you. Some people get joy out of causing a ruckus!.....Jan

  23. I certainly don't blame you for not using your real names, especialy when you have your children to protect. It would be difficult to bare your soul on your blog if you were worried about people invading your privacy.
