Spice Shelf Make Over

I decided to paint the spice shelf. I am continuing to paint some of my black pieces a lighter color to brighten the homestead up a bit.

I am really liking the lighter color and I am considering painting the paper towel holder and sugar bucket.
Sunny warm days have come to a close as winter is setting in. This was one of those sunny days when Topaz enjoyed her play in the gardens. Topaz has grown and is quiet a companion to our family. She hates to see Sam go off to school but she gets so excited when the bus comes and Sam is at the door. She must hear the bus stopping because she jumps on the chair to watch out the window til Sam comes in the door. Lucas picked such a fine pup when he picked her. I wish he were here to enjoy her.
I framed my favorite pictures of Lucas and hung them here. The light shines in his memory.
My oldest son has been bringing my Grand Girls to visit once a week. They are such a delight. Laken is working at both her jobs still.  She will soon have enough saved for a down payment on a vehicle. I pray this vehicle will not end in tragedy. Her very first car she had one day shy of 2 months when Lucas and her boyfriend were killed in it.

We are still working on the bedroom remodels. Sam's room needs just a few more things yet and I will show you all.
Thanks for stopping by to visit our homestead.

  1. I really like the lighter color on the shelf, it brightened up your area there. I think the light on Lucas' pictures does shine very well there. The dog sure has grown, since the early pup photos. I'm thankful she is such a faithful companion to Sam. I hope when you publish more photos, that I get to see them..God bless you, Lara.

    1. Sam has really only known his brother Lucas as his brother and Laken his sister. The three of them grew up together. Losing his Lucas and Laken off working he needs Topaz for comfort. She has grown. Thanks for coming by to visit.

  2. I like the lighter color too.

What a sweet dog Topaz is. She must be a constant reminder of all the memories you have of your son, and a comfort.

Your Grand-girls are so cute !

    1. I am so thankful I left Lucas have Topaz. He only had her such a sort time. Taking care of Topaz for Lucas helps me. It is the only thing I can still do for him. Topaz is sensitive to my sadness. She stays by my side when I cry and tries her best to lick the tears from my cheeks. I am loving having my son Atlee bring the grand girls to visit.

    1. It is funny you would call Topaz a gem. I say she is one to. Lucas wanted his very own pup. I am so thankful I said yes. I wonder if it was God's way of Lucas having something he wanted so much even if for a short time and Lucas somehow knowing we would need her. Topaz is my last thread to my son and the only way I can continue to do something for him each day by taking care of his Topaz as he would have. Thanks for visiting.

  5. Lara, I'm so happy to see your new post. The lighter color really pops against your red brick wall. My great aunt had that in her kitchen and it always felt so homey to me. Topaz is such a pretty girl and her eyes are just gorgeous. Your grandgirls are adorable and it must be a treat to see them weekly.

  6. When I saw spice shelf on the post title I'm thinking this little bit of a shelf that probably holds 4 to 8 oz. spice bottles ... yours is huge! I love it! Great choice in going with the lighter color.

    1. I wanted something big enough to hold my most used spices. I did a post on what and how I'd like it. Firecracker Kid responded to my rough draft and made it to my specs. I'm really loving the color to.

  8. Hi Lara! I love the spice shelf. I need one like that. I have been thinking about lightening up my entire house. I have a lot of black, red & mustard, which I love, but I think its time for a change around here.
I love how you added the light to shine near Lucas' photos. That is so sweet. What a lovely way to honor your son. But I'm sure you honor him in everything you do. I know words cannot really ever truly express such a loss but I hope you know that many are praying for you & your family. Take care.

    3. I am not sure how my replies have gotten removed to your comment. I thank you for your prayers. I am enjoying the lighter colors and have discovered that dust dose not show up so fast. That's a plus for me. . I hate to dust.

  9. The change in the spice shelf is amazing--who would have thought paint could make such a difference. I agree, Topaz is a gem indeed, and according to folklore, the gemstone is a soothing, stone that will direct energy to the place it is most needed. It heals and energizes. Topaz is a promoter of truth and forgiveness and helps to find your own path. It seems to me that her name fits her well.

  11. Hi Lara, so glad you stopped by my blog little putty little paint. Looks like you are lightening things up a lil at a time. I tell you after years of primitive, lightening things up from walls to furniture and adding more brighter or light colors has even lifted my mood and energy. I will continue to keep you in my prayers until your heart heals and you are stronger. Sounds like you have not had the closier yet that you need due to many unanswered questions from your son's tragic death. I hopethat each day becomes a we bit easier for you. Peace be with you.

    1. Thanks for continuing to think about me and checking in. Thanks Giving through Christmas was very hard for me and pushed me to a breaking point. I am slowly trying to get some what back on track with every day life. As far as a book. I have never considered myself to be a wrighter. I have thought there should be one of those dummies books written about how to treat a bereaved parent and what not to say to a bereaved parent. But I thank you for your faith in my ability to Wright. Hugs

  16. Lara,
What a lovely post! You are so very talented! It was wonderful to hear from you! I received your email in regards to the Uptown jewelry bag. If you go to my website www.mythirtyone.com/419219/ it will have my name Jill Heilman at the top left corner. Click on view catalog in menu bar and then click on accessory bags. The bag she talked about is called Uptown beauty Bag and it is $30.00. This month if you spend $35.00 (there are items for $5.00) you can get a select item half off. Also on my web page click on top right ad where it says save 50%. This will list the 8 items available. We also have an organizing utility tote that has pockets on the outside to store yarn needles, etc. This is also $30.00. I am more than happy to send you a catalog if you want to go through it and you can still place the order online and have it shipped directly to you. You could send me your address through email. Any questions please feel free to contact me. My email again is jill58972@gmail.com. Or you can go through my website. Thanks so much Lara! Have a wonderful day!

  17. Hi Lara,
NICE contrast with the white against the bricks. I have a lot of black over red and mustard colors. I love the white look too but am not ready to make that change YET. Also I want to say Thanks so much for your comment on my Blog. I have not been posting much due to our move and the holidays. I visit others frequently as they are inspiring and uplifting for me.
Keep the faith and I will keep you in my prayers too.
    Peace & Blessings,
    Barb
