Still Deciding & Train Fun For Sam

I am still trying to decide what I want to do with this fireplace. Taking all the comments I have gotten into consideration. I will be looking for a thicker piece of wood for on top of the corbels. To stain or paint is where I am stuck. If I did paint it black would the fireplace insert & the T.V. on top be one big black blurr? Another though maybe just paint the corbels & thick piece of wood on top of the corbels black. I have been searching for photos in old magazines alot.

I will be keeping the corbels for sure. I hung the basket I got for Christmas & I am sure I want it to hang there. I gave up on the idea of a board with wood pegs between the corbels. It would not fit flush against the curves in the corbels. I did not like that so I will have to find another way to hang the Christmas stockings from the fireplace. I have til next December for that. LOL.
I got a new Michigan Bulb catalog. So many beautiful things to plant. I stare out the homestead windows wishing it were getting closer to warm weather. I want to start the new addition to the homestead gardens. I am in a hurry to get my hands in soft warm dirt again.

In December we visited a model train show. Sam looks on at a real train car. Sam has always loved trains. This was the first time we visited a model train show. It was a fun day.

A model train ticket tacker.

Sam pretending to drive the train.

This was just one of the train displays we looked at. Lots of trains going in all directions. Lights on & lights off. Smoke puffing & chug a chug chug sounds. As we sat on old wooden benches & watched the trains go by it was fun to watch Sam take it all in.

Just a thought to ponder:
We must face so many unexpected things in life at times. Sometimes they seem to pile up one on top of the other. The toll of such things can weigh heavy on our thoughts causing much worry. What can we do? Run to the mountain & trust our strong tower.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 91: 1 ,2

  1. I know what you mean girl, I am very indecisive too. Especially when I have too many ideas to choose from. The best thing about paint is that you can change it as often as you like. Can't do that with stain! I really think you should paint it one color then add a different color on top and sand it down so both colors will show through.

My little guy is into trains too. Wow, he would love that place!!

Love your thought to ponder, love that verse, love the song "Strong Tower" by Kutless! I'm so glad we can run to the strong tower for refuge! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    Have a delightful week~

  2. Oh my, I always struggle too when faced with making a decision about decorating the home. Sounds though like you'll get it all figured out. So are you looking at a future train conducter in your family? That would be neat.
Yes, we all have challenges, some more than others. I always have compassion for others and trust in the Lord that helps me through.

  3. I like the color of your fireplace as it is :) :) The corbles are those white things on either side of the fireplace, right? Hmm...either black for those or something that's a cross between that rich wood color and black :) :) Just a thought...but either way, I'd wait until you have a firmer idea ;0 :) Besides, it'll give you more time to browse through magazines etc for ideas :) :) Either way, I'm confident it'll turn out nice :) :) Your home is cute!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  5. Not sure exactly what all you want to do.. but I think that painting all of that wood Black and then heavily distressing it till most of the natural wood shows threw and rubbing it out with Old english Scratch cover would look way awesome and it would help to blend the Black TV and fireplace in with the whole area rather then make them look like Black Blobs as you put it in the middle. Just a thought but it would look so prim and so warm..

Good Luck and have fun deciding what to do!!

    Blessings

  6. I know how you feel about not wanting to make a mistake on your fireplace. Hubby and I searched for months when we were getting ready to re-do ours. Finally we saw the exact look we wanted in a Country Sampler Magazine. We have been happy with our decision for years because we know we waited until we saw what we loved.
    Good luck,

  8. My son is fascinated with trains too. He and Grandpa will take the day in the summer take their chairs and sit by the railroad track for hours. My Dad got a portable train radio from my Mom for christmas so now they will be able to hear the train engineer traffic.

  10. Catching up today and wanted to tell you I love this piece. I agree with you about painting it all black with a black tv and fireplace--may all blend too much. I would paing the trim, corbels, etc. black like you suggest above--I think that will really make it pop :)
